Founded in 2023, Stablemate Business emerged from a passion for horses combined with a strong understanding of business. Our founder, Bev Kirkwood, brings over 20 years of accounting experience and a lifelong love for the thoroughbred racing industry. With a small, dedicated team, Bev established a firm that prioritises precision, trust, and personalised service.

BEV KIRKWOOD
Founder, Chartered Accountant, and Horse Lover
Bev is the heart behind Stablemate Business, offering comprehensive business advisory and bringing over two decades of accounting experience combined with a lifelong love of horses. She began her career at Ernst & Young before dedicating 20 years to mid-tier firms, working closely with small business clients across a variety of sectors. Her deep understanding of business, along with a genuine desire to assist others, laid the groundwork for launching her own firm in 2023.
Bev’s passion for the thoroughbred racing industry runs deep. She dabbled in showjumping and fell in love with a 16-hand black thoroughbred called Chino. Since becoming a Mum to Olly, she has temporarily hung up the reins and shifted her focus to the track. With her love for racing rekindled, she is now excited to own a share in a racehorse named October Star (affectionately known as Hedgehog) and loves getting out to the stables for a visit and a pat.
When she’s not crunching numbers or cheering on Hedgehog at the track, Bev enjoys spending quality time with her family and their golden retriever, Digby. Her approach to business is personal and supportive, much like the business advisory for racing professionals that she provides. Karmena Spiteri
Accountant
Karmena Burzic is a dedicated accountant at Stablemate Business. With over a decade of experience in accounting and taxation services since beginning her career in 2010 at a small boutique accounting firm in Sydney, where she honed her skills with a strong emphasis on attention to detail. Nearly seven years later, she transitioned to a mid-tier firm, broadening her expertise across a diverse range of clients and industries. With a Bachelor of Business & Commerce majoring in Accounting, Karmena combines technical expertise with a warm, client-focused approach.
In 2022, Karmena moved to sunny Queensland for a better lifestyle for her family, allowing her to achieve a healthier work-life balance. As a mum to two little girls, she brings patience, empathy, and genuine care to every client interaction, making financial matters feel approachable and understandable.
Outside of work, Karmena enjoys taking her daughters on adventures and spending quality time with friends and family. She aims to create a positive and approachable experience, where clients feel heard, understood, and confident in their financial journey.
